Three scientists received Siemens Awards
Prof. Andrzej Wiszniewski and Dr. Aleksandra Borsukiewicz-Gozdur and Dr. Mariusz Rafał Susik are the winners of this year\'s Siemens Awards, granted by the international corporation and Warsaw University of Technology. The awards were presented in Warsaw.
Siemens Award was established in 1995 as a result of an agreement between Warsaw University of Technology and Siemens. Chairman or the jury appointed jointly by the university and the company is rector of Warsaw University of Technology.
The jury of the 19th edition of the competition chose three winners. Research Award for lifetime achievement in scientific research went to Prof. Andrzej Wiszniewski from Wrocław University of Technology.
Promotional awards were given to two scientists. One of the winners was Dr. Aleksandra Borsukiewicz-Gozdur of West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, for the habilitation thesis "Improving the efficiency of steam-electric power station powered with low and mid-temerature energy sources". The other winner is is Dr. Mariusz Rafal Susik from Łódź University of Technology, honoured for his doctoral thesis "Optimizing geometry of cooling water pump inlets using the numerical analysis of three-dimensional flows".
Four years ago an additional element of the competition was introduced: the Graduate Award for graduates with the best dissertations and research units, from which the best graduates originate. This year, the award winners included: Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdańsk University of Technology; the Faculty of Automatics, Computer Science and Robotics, Silesian University of Technology, and the Institute of Science and Technology of the State Higher Vocational School in Głogów.
The amount of research award - for outstanding research resultswith practical applications - is PLN 40 thousand, and promotional award - for outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral theses - PLN 30 thousand. According to the regulations, the promotional award may be divided between two winners.
The awards were given during a gala held at Warsaw University of Technology. The ceremony was preceded by the presentation of doctoral and postdoctoral promotions.
