Tatra National Park among 30 recommended parks in the world

Tatra National Park is in the list of the world’s 30 recommended national parks; photo gallery has been published on CNN website. The list authors appreciated the landscapes of the Tatra Mountains, the weather, sports opportunities and cultural aspects of the region.

Photos from Poland were next to parks such as Kruger National Park in Africa, Uluru-Kata Tjuta in Australia, Iguazu in Australia, Cairngorms in Scotland, Tikal in Guatemala, Galapagos in Ecuador, Goreme in Turkey.

One of the authors of the photos published on the U.S. website, and depicting 30 most interesting parks, is Anne Dirkse of Colorado, who (according to CNN website) crossed seven continents. Having visited numerous places, she found that these national parks are among the most recommended.

"I love nature, I like to experience its beauty - especially in remote areas, away from noise, light pollution, so many of us are accustomed to experiencing every day" - said Dirkse.

Since the photo gallery on the CNN website may suggest that it is a ranking, photojournalist explained PAP that the list and photographs on the CNN is not ranking in the literal sense of the word. Photos taken by her and the other photographers working with CNN are a gallery of parks, located outside the U.S., and worthy of a visit.

"It is a great honor for us. We are pleased that qualities of the Tatra Mountains are appreciated, and so are the park staff nature conservation efforts" - told PAP Tatra National Park director Szymon Ziobrowski.

Tatra National Park was established in 1954. The park area is over 21 thousand hectares. Approximately 70 per cent of the area is covered by forests and thickets of dwarf pine, the remaining 30 percent are alpine grasslands, rocks and water. 11.5 thousand hectares are is under strict protection, including the entire alpine tundra and crag zones, dwarf pine zone, and partly also the upper and lower subalpine forests.
