Compared to 2014, this represents a PLN 900 million (6 percent) increase. The budget includes the money for the third stage of salary increases for academic staff: PLN 1 billion 40 million.

"Science is a priority for next year\'s budget. I am extremely glad we have managed to obtain more than 10 percent increase in funding. This gives us a chance to conduct better, more innovative research" - noted Minister of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska.

She emphasised the clearly increasing state spending on science in relation to GDP: from 0.39 percent this year to 0.42 percent in 2015. "We are looking forward to the latest report of the Central Statistical Office on private sector spending on research and development. According to our forecasts, the upward trend of last year continues, and this means that the total spending on science in Poland is getting closer to 1 percent GDP. This will surely allow to implement the government\'s announcements, and already in 2020 spending on research, development and innovation in Poland will amount to 1.7 percent GDP. This is our commitment to the European Union, and we consistently carry it out" - emphasised Minister Kolarska-Bobińska.

Ministry of Science also announced that talks were underway with the Ministry of Treasury about the possibilities to increase spending on research and development by the Treasury companies, and with the Ministry of Defence on the need to increase spending on defence research. Inventions in this area in fact also find applications in other sectors.
