New website for graduates choosing a college will launch on September 30

Study programs at risk of closure, current offer of 435 universities, the number of students and candidates for various courses are some of the data to be available on the Wybierz Studia (Choose Studies) website, prepared by the Ministry of Science. Officially, it will launch on September 30.

"Education system changes dynamically, new courses, new specializations emerge. Graduates who are choosing future studies often find it very difficult to make a choice and find out not only what are the new courses, but also which are the best. This portal will help students and their parents to make the right choice" - Minister of science, Prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska said about the Wybierz Studia website.

The new portal of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is addressed primarily to high school students. For now, trial version is available at: http://wybierzstudia.nauka.gov.pl, and officially the website will be launched on September 30. It will help high school students select studies according to their interests, make the selection of high school exit exam subjects to meet the requirements of the university, find studies near the place of residence. It will also provide information on courses awarded by the Polish Accreditation Committee, and those that because of a negative assessment suspend recruitment or even will be closed. It will also inform about the evaluation of the Committee for Evaluation of Research Units of the scientific potential of various universities, as well as which units has the Leading National Research Centre status.

"It will allow to determine how many students study at the university, tell you which colleges offer attractive trips abroad for students. Information on courses at risk of being closed will help students avoid unfair offers. We will have a website that is easy to use, interactive, accessible for everyone" - explained Minister of Science during a press conference.

Users will be able to search for information in six categories, which can be combined: university name, location, field of study, high school exit exam subjects and university type (eg. public or non-public), and type of study. The website will provide verified, updated information from four sources: updated data from official higher education database POL-on, evaluation of faculties by the Polish Accreditation Committee, evaluation of scientific activity carried out the Committee for Evaluation of Research Units and information submitted by universities.

According to the Minister of Science, the website has been tested by high school students and independent foundations. Until September 15 the Ministry of Science will wait for the comments of users of the trial version of the website. On September 30, in parallel with the website, mobile version will be launched. Further language versions are also planned.

The test version of the website can be used by up to 2 thousand users. In the case of the production version it will be up to 10 thousand people at the same time.

The website has been prepared by the Ministry of Science in cooperation with the Information Processing Centre - National Research Institute. The cost of its development was over 400 thousand zlotys.
