UW students best in international legal competition

Team of students from the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw won the international legal competition, which every year attracts dozens of teams from around the world. This is the first win of a team from non-English-speaking country in the history of the competition.
Teams participating in the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot played the role of a team that represents the claimant - investor and the respondent - State in a fictional investment dispute before an international tribunal. This year\'s competition was held on October 24-26 at Pepperdine University in California.
"After 6 months of preparation and a series of eight demanding battles, the UW students won the Skadden Arps Trophy 2014" - reported the University of Warsaw on its website. The winning team members were: : Dominika Jędrzejczyk, Aleksandra Orzeł, Katarzyna Lubianiec, Marek Szolc and Wojciech Rzepiński.
In the second place was New York University. In third place, University of Athens ex aequo Jagiellonian University.
The team from the University of Warsaw also took second place in the total classification for memorials and oral rounds. In this category, first was the Harvard Law School in the US. Jagiellonian University took the eighth place, 33rd place - the team with the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, and 37th - students of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
Warsaw team also won second prize for the best claimant memorial. In this discipline, Warsaw was defeated by the University of Ottawa. Third place went to the Harvard Law School. The Top Advocate title went to Dominika Jędrzejczyk from the University of Warsaw.
At first, writing stage, teams prepared memorials for both parties. The oral stage was a simulation of hearing before the arbitral tribunal. The arbitrators were established practitioners and academics from prestigious universities around the world.
