English language version of "Projektor Jagielloński", the "Science Projector" has just been published online. It is an attractive Jagiellonian University publication, which promotes the most interesting research projects conducted in recent years at the Jagiellonian University.

The English version of the book - published in the electronic version - is entitled "Science Projector. What are scientists from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków currently working on?".

The publication is based on two updated existing Polish editions of "Projektor Jagielloński", published in 2012 and this year. The publication is a joint work of the Jagiellonian University scientists and the university Promotion Office. In total, it presents 50 research projects - recently completed or currently carried out by the Kraków scientists.

Just like in the case of Polish editions, the intention of the authors and editor of the guide - Piotr Żabicki is to present the most important or the most spectacular achievements of scientists at the Jagiellonian University in an accessible way. The reader may be not only foreign scientist, but also a layman curious about the projects carried out in the Polish science.

Described topics cover all areas: the humanities, social sciences, science, technology, environmental research and medicine.

Concise and accessible texts do not resemble scientific reports at all. They are more of a collection of snapshots that show the reader, even the one not involved in science, what happens in the laboratories, offices and libraries.

One of the chapters of the book presents the ins and outs of audio description: verbal and audio description of a picture (for example a movie), designed for the blind.

The chapter devoted to biology and medicine describes studies aimed at finding quick and effective methods to diagnose sepsis, and analyses relating to childhood leukaemia. In both cases, the work of scientists from the University may have crucial significance.

The book also presents impressive discoveries of Polish archaeologists from the Jagiellonian University in Cyprus and Guatemala (Naukum). Other interesting research topics include: social and legal aspects of suicides in the age of the Internet, or problems related to the integration of Roma people in Polish society.

The English version of the "Projector" can be found on the website. The authors emphasise that it is available for everyone and can be used by Internet users under Creative Commons license.
